Working to Keep the Environment Safe
The world around us, much as it is capable of giving healing, is ever so much more in need of healing for itself. Our turn has come to give back to the world that sustains and nurtures us. And so, Ma'yan Tikvah is brought forth with a conscious effort to keep to a minimum the impact of our activities on the natural world and with a sense of responsibility to constantly learn and teach about the preservation and conservation of the natural world.
Transportation: Since most of us cannot feasibly arrive by foot or bike, we ask that you help arrange carpools. Let us know where you're coming from, and we’ll get you in touch with others from your area.
Refreshments: All food is vegetarian and every effort is made to serve foods that are organic, local, and fair trade.
Dishes and Utensils: Utensils and dishes are reusable. If it is ever necessary to use disposable cutlery or dishes, they will be compostable.
Social Justice and Tzedakah
Our responsibility is not just to the natural world, but to our neighbors near and far who are less well off than we. And so, every event has a social justice or tzedakah component. These range from information about upcoming advocacy opportunities to pertinent teachings to collections for social justice organizations to more involved projects. Watch the Events announcements to see what's planned for the event you're attending.
Creative Contributions to Ma'yan Tikvah Programs
Your input into all that we do is more than just welcome - it is part of the growing and shaping of our community. We are especially interested your creative contributions to our services and programs. If you have
- a song to teach,
- a reading to share,
- a meditation or guided imagery to lead,
- a ritual to direct, or
- a teaching or insight into a text --
send it to Rabbi Katy Allen at rabbikza@verizon.net ahead of time and she will work with you to weave it into the appropriate service or program. Let us all learn from each other.
Get Involved in Running Ma'yan Tikvah
Ma'yan Tikvah is an open and participatory community built upon the concepts of shared responsibility and shared opportunity. In addition to attending events, you can help and participate by:
- getting involved with organizing events;
- helping with administrative aspects of the community;
- organizing refreshments;
- assisting with publicity;
- organizing a social justice project;
- leading a program or service;
- letting us know about an upcoming advocacy opportunity; or
- helping us get tax exempt status.
The Finances of Ma'yan Tikvah
A Wellspring of Hope - we are financing Ma'yan Tikvah without requiring a set fee for classes or a membership fee for being a part of this community. Yet, it costs money to make all that we do happen. Your donations help Ma'yan Tikvah come into being, blossom, and prosper. We only ask that you give what your heart invites you to give. No one is turned away for financial reasons.
